Amrita School of Engineering, Bangalore started in 2002 as "Amrita Institute of Technology & Science" with a vision to produce quality engineers with service attitude for the benefit of the society and nation. The school was conceived of as the grooming ground for future engineering professionals of India. Initially it had only three branches: Computer Science, Electronics & Communication and Information Technology. It was then affiliated to the Visveswaraiah Technological University, Belgum.

Acharya Institutes is managed by Samagra Sikshana Samithi Trust , which is solely dedicated to imparting professional education to all segments of society . There as many as 11 undergraduate and 7 postgraduate courses in various streams such as physiotherapy, nursing, medical lab technology, radiography, biotechnology, genetics, microbiology, management and computer science.
